1.57 Carat Emerald Cut Diamond, RIV-D, VVS-2, HRD Certified

This is a natural emerald cut diamond of 1.57 carat, colour River D, clarity VVS-2, with an HRD certificate. It comes from Royal Coster Diamonds in Amsterdam, the oldest still operating diamond polishing house in the world, founded in 1840.

The cut. The emerald cut is a rectangular step cut with cropped corners. Its long, parallel facets work like a hall of mirrors: instead of sparkle you see broad flashes of light and a clear view into the stone. Because the cut hides very little, clarity matters more here than in a brilliant cut.

Colour. River D is the top of the colour scale and fully colourless. Set in white gold or platinum, the stone shows no tint.

Clarity. VVS-2 stands for Very Very Slightly Included. The inclusions are so small that even a trained grader has difficulty finding them under 10x magnification.

Certificate. The diamond was graded by HRD, an independent laboratory. The certificate confirms that the diamond is natural and records its weight, colour, clarity and cut.
