The 4C's
The 4C's of a diamond are the four key characteristics that determine the quality and value of a diamond: cut, carat weight, color, and clarity. Together, these four characteristics are used to evaluate the quality and value of a diamond, and are considered when determining a diamond's price.
Carat Weight
Carat weight is a unit measurement used for a diamonds weight, where 1 carat = 0.2 grams. Points can also be used whereby 1 carat = 100 points. Because larger diamonds are rarer, they generally have a higher price per carat.
Cut
The cut of a diamond equals the overall shape of the stone. A good diamond worker can cut a diamond in almost every shape imaginable. In the end the shape of a diamond you select is a matter of personal preference.
Clarity
Clarity equals the purity of a diamond, this can vary from flawless (zero imperfections) to blemishes (a lot of imperfections). These imperfections, like fractures, are tiny parts of carbon or air bubbles. A natural diamond is rarely without perfections.
Color
The color of a diamond relates directly to a diamond’s value. This color can vary a lot, from white to yellow/brown. The diamond’s color can be graded from a scale that begins with D, then progress down the alphabet with each letter designating.
