Starting the Diamond Museum - Royal Coster Diamonds

Starting the Diamond Museum

Royal Coster Diamonds is more than just a diamond polishing factory. In 2007 we opened our own Diamond Museum to share our passion for diamonds with the public. The museum is a place to learn everything about diamond history. You discover a breath-taking diamond collection and even participate in a diamond workshop every now and then.

Why start a diamond museum?

The Diamond Museum Amsterdam was an initiative from Mr. Ben Meier. He is the late owner of Royal Coster Diamonds. Ben was a world-famous diamond polisher himself. His ambition was to take people on a journey that represents the diamond life cycle. Therefore, we structured the museum like that journey. Spoiler alert: at the end, you experience what it is like to be inside a diamond!

Diamond museum exhibition

The exhibition of the Diamond Museum Amsterdam travels back in time. It tells you how diamonds were geologically created and formed into their final shape. The exhibition gives you an idea of how humans developed a passion for diamonds. And it shows why diamonds are always associated with wealth and power. There is a collection of historical crowns and famous diamonds. These replicas show how those with power used diamonds to carry out their status.

Collections

The Diamond Museum doesn’t only present a historical view. It also has a permanent diamond collection. Check out famous diamonds and diamond items, such as the Katana, the Rembrandt Diamond, and the Ape Skull. The Diamond Museum also provides the opportunity to see diamond polishers at work. Discover how they use their unique craftsmanship to turn rough stones into beautiful sparkling diamonds.

Combine the Diamond Museum & Royal Coster

Certainly! Royal Coster offers a Diamond Workshop and a Diamond Masterclass. Both courses provide free entrance to the museum. Both workshops start with a tour around the premises of Royal Coster and the Diamond Museum. After the tour, our Master Polisher teaches you the first basic steps of his or her noble profession. Eventually, you can to crawl into a diamond polishers skin and get the opportunity to cut and polish your own diamond.
