Go and get your oliebollen

While oliebollen literally translates to oily balls, they are actually closer to everyone’s favorite sweet treats — donuts. Around October, oliebollenkramen (donut vans) pop up across the country serving fresh donuts in a range of flavors including apple, chocolate, cherry and more. Traditionally eaten on New Year’s Eve and washed down with champagne, these doughy treats are much better than they sound. Here are a few of the places you can get the best Oliebollen. Banketbakkerij Lanskroon, Hartog’s volkoren Oliebollen, Hollandse Gebakraam Heinekenplein, Olliebollenkraam Tuincentrum Osdorp and Gebakkraam Verwijk. But if none of them are close by don’t get discouraged, during the winter in Amsterdam you will find them absolutely everywhere. They will help you to get the most out of your trip to Amsterdam.
